The following is the statement of Hank Gilbert (D-Tyler), candidate for United States Congress in Texas’ First Congressional District concerning today’s house vote on furthering the impeachment inquiry:
“Today’s vote by the United States House of Representatives will provide for a transparent inquiry to help determine whether or not the President’s actions rise to the level of impeachable offenses.
This vote is not about the current president. This vote is not about political party. This vote is about preserving the integrity of the United States Constitution and protecting our national security. As congressional leaders have said today, if we do not attempt to hold this president accountable, we may be ceding our opportunity to do so in the future under worse circumstances.
It is now up to my opponent Congressman Louie Gohmert, and his colleagues on the House Judiciary Committee, to determine whether or not sufficient evidence exists to result in charges against the president that the Senate will ultimately hear. I encourage congressman Gohmert not to continue to obstruct these proceedings as he has in the past, so that his constituents and all Americans may learn the truth about what has gone on in this administration.”
