Gohmert Propagates Multiple Lies on Fox Business Monday Night
TYLER, Texas—U.S. Congressman Louie Gohmert continued his 14-year pattern of lying to his constituents and the country Monday night during an appearance on FOX Business’s Trish Regan Prime Time, including claiming he had been banned from a committee room for a House committee on which he does not serve.
Of the lies and misleading statements permeating Gohmert’s appearance last night was a Gohmert’s claim that he was banned from committee hearings involving impeachment last week:
TRISH REGAN: He serves on the Judiciary House committee [sic], so he should be able to attend the secret impeachment hearings, but Democrats have banned him.
[Continuing]
TRISH REGAN: You’ve been banned from a lot of those secret hearings.
LOUIE GOHMERT: Oh yeah.
These so-called secret ‘hearings’ were not hearings at all, but actually depositions conducted by a committee on which Congressman Gohmert does not even sit, notes his opponent Hank Gilbert (D-Tyler), a longtime area rancher, business owner, and former high school agriculture teacher.
“It is a lie that he’s been banned, and a lie that they were secret hearings,” said Gilbert. “That’s two lies in the span of less than 20 seconds, which may be a new record even for Louie,” he continued.
Gohmert, as part of his tireless efforts to carry water for the President, rather than do anything of value for the citizens of Texas Congressional District 1, is being deceptive and misleading to his constituents about the process, Gilbert said.
“In keeping with House rules, the Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence limited attendance at the depositions to members of the committee. This included Republicans who were in attendance and criticized Gohmert and his crazy cronies for their storming of the SCIF where the deposition was being conducted,” Gilbert said.
“Maybe Louie forgot the rules he voted for or maybe he’s gone as crazy as Rudy Guiliani and forgot that he isn’t even on that committee,” Gilbert said.
“Why does Louie continue to lie about being ‘banned,’” asked Gilbert. “Does he think his constituents are so stupid they can’t use Google and actually go see the truth on the House’s own website,” Gilbert continued.
“Gohmert seems to have endless time for partisan stunts, but doesn’t seem to have much time for his own constituents,” Gilbert said.
“He’d rather appear on TV spouting lie after lie because goodness knows if he were to actually face his constituents and their hard questions about why he hasn’t bothered to support transportation infrastructure dollars for our district or do anything about funding for rural hospitals, he’d have no answers,” Gilbert said.
